our Story

As owner of the sushi & ramen restaurant Aki Nom Nom, Tom Lau knows a thing or two about satisfying Philadelphia foodies. His Japanese eatery has been a consistently popular hot spot over the years and continues to be a neighborhood favorite.

JOMON JAPANESE BBQ:
ESTablished in 2022.

Before settling in Philadelphia, Tom earned his chops with a few smaller restaurant projects from Maryland to New York City. He was originally inspired to enter the hospitality industry after working at his father’s Chinese take out restaurant.

Fast forward to the present. Jomon Japanese BBQ is his latest–and most ambitious–concept to date. Based on the Yakaniku-style of table grilling, Jomon invites diners to experience the authentic flavors of Japan while enjoying lively communal cooking.

After a week-long soft opening with Jomon inviting followers and the foodie community to come enjoy a First Taste Experience, doors were open to the public and the ribbon was cut at the Grand Opening Celebration on October 20, 2022. Since then, Jomon has served thousands of happy customers and maintained a 4-star or more rating on both Google and Yelp.

Randy Lau, Tom’s son and Jomon co-owner brings a big smile and positivity to guest service, from greeting diners to mixing spirits behind the bar. With a new updated menu in the works, a new lunch special to be revealed, and a holiday event coming up, there’s no slowing down for the team at Jomon.

With growing popularity and a dedication to constant improvement, Jomon is set to be a Philadelphia staple for years to come.
